A copy of the ORIGINAL edition of Mic Lowther's “Walking North”
is on eBay auction! This is one of the very few copies (5?) of the
his 1990 hardbound self-published edition that he lent to readers.
The word spread, over the years, and it became an “underground
A. T. classic.” Finally, it was picked up by a publisher and came
out in paperback in 2001.

I was fortunate to be blessed with one of the “family and friends”
copies of that original edition. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Not only is it a marvelous story, but it was written by a very talented
writer.

There will be only a few copies put on eBay, one at a time, so if
you want one get busy and bid at at http://tinyurl.com/5l73sn
Maybe someone you know would like one for Christmas?

Sounds like you know more than you are letting on?

If you mean I was hinting I wanted one, nope--as I said, I have one of my own.
But there must be some other folks out there that would like a copy. Especially
anyone who's a collector, since there's only going to be five or so of these first
editions available.

100 bucks for a book seems pretty steep to me. I don't even know who the author is. Maybe if it was signed and written by Earl Shafer, by hand, maybe..

Yes, Mic Lowther is generally unknown to the hiking community, so can't
be compared to Earl. However, Mic's book is among the top half-dozen
best-written books of A.T. memoirs. An wonderful read. And you don't
have to buy one of the rare hardbacks to enjoy it. The paperback is
available from ATC and Amazon.com, among other places, for less than $20.
