Not as bad as predicted here, still have power.
its warm enough that the rain is dripping off surfaces as apposed to freezing
on contact.

Been about 6 inches of snow so far here just north of Burlington, VT.

Sipping coffee and enjoying a beautiful day. :)

Planning on playing in it tomorrow.

Had a 5" thick tree limb ice up and break off last night and hit the roof above the bedroom, then slid down. Scared us, but turned out to be no real damage. As always in this situation it could have been worse. It's now 10:30 AM and it's snowing like crazy again. Two trees were down, well away from the house, way up in the back yard.

Wow, now there's a switch! We're usually the ones with rain while you folks get dumped with white stuff.

Up here we didn't get anything.... It sleeted a little, but mostly rain... Today is gorgeous.... Chilly, but no rain, no ice, no snow.

Was also talking to some colleagues in Manhattan yesterday... Just rain for them... My brother down in Mississippi said they got about 2 inches of snow...

The inch of snow we got last night was a quarter-inch of ice on the roads on the south side of town this morning. Maybe no big deal in most places, but Metro wasn't about to turn loose its 4 salt trucks in December. :-?

That just about maks me want to go up there and see if I can do anything for anyone. I love it up in those parts.........

I'm about 8 actual (12 road) miles west of Bennington. Lots of outages all around me, but I'm with a very small electric company that almost never has an outage on their lines, they're just lucky I guess. My daughter lives 25 miles north and she lost her power last night, still has none, and there's not even a guess as to when it will be up again. I just spoke my dog's vet/groomer's office in the Old Bennington area (southwestern side) and they have power.

I gave the report on temp here before I heard all the news reports on how bad the NE got hit. Hope the ice doesn't do too much damage, and the folks who need the electric get it back soon.

I lost power for 4 or 5 hours. But parts of my town on mid coast Maine are still out a fact I learned to my surprise a couple of hours ago. We called two close friends in their mid 80s who live in the outage area a few minutes ago. Their phone had no answer.

I have a large plastic rain barrel that I use to keep roof run off from flooding my basement. Last night it was full. But when I went out to bail it out this afternoon, I discovered an overflow hose had unthawed and the barrel was near empty.

Still no significant snow on my part of the coast. (about 15 miles east northeast of Portland) Lots of freezing rain.

The sun was out when I emerged from an early afternon funeral. I rarely go to funerals. But it was for one our most dedicated town land trust officials, who had died at age 92. We have been working on a land gift from him for a couple of years. I thought it critical that someone from the land trust attend.

Nice 78* with slight southwest wind here in the Ozarks. Expecting some heavy frost later next week so everybody is out stocking up. Looks like it may be a killing frost so I'll have to cover my tomatos. Not sure if I should use E-vent or Gortex3.

Looks to be perfectly clear for the meteor shower later tonight but they're forecasting frigid temps in the low 40s so I may take my 0* bag.

Savor Happy!

Perhaps you northern folks should come hit the Trail, it is hiking season in Florida.

It seems the higher elevations of the northern(ME, NH) Apps got spared the brunt of the ice storm. 100,000 residents till w/o power in coastal/downeast areas.
Good stuff if you or kids have runner sleds and hills.
Gonna check out some hiking this week for a day or two, crunch, crunch. probably snowshoes are in now.

Been there done that...we were without power back in 1996 for 5 days, some more rural areas were without power for 3 weeks! Ice is nasty, and I hope they get the juice on soon. Cooked a lot of meals on my backpacking stove for the family. Took us a year to clean up the mess with tree debiis everywhere.

Just talked to my buddy at Ellijay GA (20 miles from Springer) and he says it has rained steady for four days now. Pine trees falling all over. Between Pine Beetles, then drought now rain excess it is impossible for the trees to stay up once the ground softens too much.
