I was searching for a runners watch for my daughter (she runs marathons) and came across this........probably just a silly weighty gadget but kind of fun in any case. :)

Was your last hike with Alexander the Great or Hannibal?

I train with this: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=142&pID=348 and also have worn it during a marathon with good results.

I don't even like to run without it to tell you the truth.

On the other hand, if she's looking for a runner's watch that can be worn as a regular watch I recommend the Timex Ironman series.

I started running on a regular basis after my 2006 thru-hike. I've tried things like the (TECH 4 O), but found that they are not accurate enough unless you walk/run at the same stride every time, which requires you to be too rigid in your training regimen. Now I just mark-out a route with my bike computer for the distance and do the math based on my run-time, using a normal watch.

However, I also like gadgets (keeps up morale while exercising) and have been thinking about getting something like 10-K showed. If your daughter is really into running I think she would appreciate the GPS thing much more than a glorified watch/pedometer.

As a runner, how accurate have you found it to be?

Have you tried out the optional foot monitor for indoor use? Accuracy?

A couple weeks ago Costco had a $40 rebate on the 305 so I started to look into it. I discovered that the 205 was cheaper than the 305 with the rebate so that is what I am thinking about getting. (For those wondering, the 305 includes a HRM and tracks your cadence when biking - thinks I wouldn't use).

The Zenith El Primero is a bargain at just over $500,000. It's got a sweet warranty. . .

Yes, there isn't much point in knowing the time if you don't know which time zone you're in.

That looks neat, I'd search for reviews o see if it really works as well as advertised though. I second the Garmin reccomendation too, I've used a Forerunner 201 for 2 years and love it.

Very accurate - I have measured routes ranging from 3 miles to over 20 and as long as I don't deviate from my course it's not uncommon for differences between runs to be within a few hundredths of a mile from run to run.

It was within 3/10's of a mile when I wore it during the Myrtle Beach Marathon which I thought was pretty impressive.

The 205 does all I need - I don't wear a heart rate monitor which I believe is the difference between the 205 and the 305.

I do enjoy uploading my runs to my computer via USB though the supplied Garmin software is pretty bare bones.

I highly recommend it. I'm on my 3rd one - I went through 2 Forerunner 201's before the 205 came out. The 201's weren't water resistant and both of them crapped out, each at about a year old. The 205 is water resistant and I've had it for almost 2 years now. I dropped it and the beeper broke so I don't get audible alerts any longer but it's no biggie.
