Calling all experts... I found this sleeping bag I don't know how but I really like it... It bundles up in a tiny ball making it super easy to carry on my backpack... Never heard of the brand though, making me a bit cautious... http://www.kitbag.com.au/prod934.htm there's the link to it. I like the bag a lot but I just want to know if it's something I might find myself buying in the near future... Thanks!

seems to heavy at 4 and a half pounds. many sleeping bags will compress that small when used with a compression sack.

I agree with Bobbo. That isn't that small of a sleeping bag. Checkout other mfgs. and you should be able to find a comparably priced bag and a comparably sized bag that weighs a lot less (I'll trust Bobbo's conversion to lbs.). Western Mountaineering would be a good place to start. The military has never been known for producing lightweight hiking gear!

Western Mountainiring is expensive unless you have the cash. Many here have seemed to like Campmor's 20 degree down bags for warmth and price.
My son used the 20 degree Cats Meow - the cheaper version on Campmor and liked it very much.

Blissful brings up a good point. I have a cat's meow 20 degree bag,I really like it. Great bag for the money in my opinion.

Not for backpacking. It looks like a military bag. At 4.5 pounds it's extra heavy and at $300 not really that cheap.

I think a goose down sleeping would be smaller and lighter.

300 bones?

You could get an awesome western mountaineering or montbell bag for that price.

Feathered friends too, for a little more.

Do you plan on using this bag for the AT? If so, do you plan on hiking the entire trail during the winter months? This is a negative 4 degree bag. Big time over kill for an AT thru-hike. Even if you planned on using this for winter hiking there are better lighter choices.

If you want a zero, this is a good one for less money and it weighs less.If you spend some time looking around you can probably find a lighter one that is on sale for less than this. I'm using this one as an example, but it's a good one.

If you are looking to do an AT hike during the spring, summer and fall a 20 degree bag is fine.

"http://www.kitbag.com.au/prod934.htm there's the link to it. "Note that the company location is Perth. All prices are in Australian dollars. Also note these bags are apparently made for the Australian military and could have far different design parameters than bags made for hikers.

Oh, the exchange rate is about 1 USD=1.4587 Australian meaning the bag costs about $205 USD plus whatever shipping would be from down unda. :)
