Whats up y'all,

I'm fine sleeping on a CCF Pad....but they are a pain too pack. Way too bulky.

I need some advice on how to roll/fold/tie up this thing so it doesn't take up all the room in my pack.

Thanks!
:D

Back in the old days, I used to just roll it around my tent, then strap them both to the top of my Kelty Tioga.

Now you may be able to roll it tight, place it into your frameless pack, then let it expand. Pack everything else into the center. This holds the pack open while packing and acts as a frame sheet.

Third option is to roll it tight, then strap it onto the outside of the pack. Most find strapping it in a vertical orientation is best.

There's no real trick to it. I used to roll it up and tie it on the bottom of the outside of my pack, but now I am using a homemade frameless pack, so I use my pad as the frame of my pack.

Another one here who rolls it up and straps to the outside.

Just be sure to buy yourself a fairly large Thermarest stuff sack to put it in if it is on the outside of your pack, otherwise the blow-downs will bite chunks out of it, turning it into swiss cheese in very short order. You can buy some 1" webbing and buckles at your local outfitter to attach it with somewhere on your pack.

I fold mine up and use it as a stay in my frameless pack.

For those of you lazier than Tinker, here's a direct link to his Post #15 (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showpost.php?p=735248&postcount=15) so you don't have to wade through 14 posts to find his pearls of wisdom. ;)

When I carried one, I liked to carry it vertically on the front of my pack, like this:

(Note gray CCF pad on front of pack, farthest from hiker.)

That way it's easily accessible for a quick nap when I stop for a break.

use a gearskin pack and then the pad is the body of the pack.

roll it up tight, lash it to the outside horizontal like. serves as a stabilizer when i set my pack down (so it doesn't fall over) and i can use it as a seat/backrest during breaks.
