If you are planning to park at 19E, I would suggest contacting Mountain Harbor B&B (http://www.mountainharbour.net/main.htm) and maybe park there instead of the trailhead. They are about .3 of a mile from the trailhead.

As far as the cold weather goes, as long as he has warm clothing and a decent sleeping bag, he will probably be alright.

I was up at Roan High Knob about a month ago when it was about 15F during the day. I passed a group of three out for the night. They appeared not to be prepared for the cold, but I reckon they survived all right.

See you on the trail,

Coupe,

I believe I read that Carvers Gap was not a safe place to leave a vehicle because of vandalism. Mountain Squid would be a good person to ask.

Carvers Gap safe, haven't heard but 1 break in and that was a few years ago.
For weather look at averyweather.com
It has forecast for mountains a stone throw away.

As long as you use good sense, Carvers Gap is ok to park at. I had some friends who locked their skis and daypacks in plain view in their car there before going up the hill for a quick over-nighter......guess what happened?
