New Year's Eve Hike?

Anybody know anything about the New Year's Eve hike to Springer?

I have heard about it in the past and have always missed it. Is there one this year? I know that it probably is an unorganized group meeting at the mtn top. But what time do people start hiking?

I don't plan on staying over night. But I was just wondering what the details are.

most park at the forest service parking lot .9 north of springer and walk up and make camp in and around the shelter. around mid-afternoon

It's not an organized thing. A lot of people drive to the parking area near the Springer summit. Those of us who want to hike up from the State Park just get there whenever we can and hike up at our own pace.

It's about a five-hour drive for me, so I won't get there until at least midday.
