Hey all, I'm still debating on my gear for an upcoming Feb trip from Fontana to Erwin. Today's consideration is bottom insulation.
I will take:
- silk long underwear for sleeping
- wool long underwear for hiking when needed
- shorts or convertible pants (haven't decided yet)
- Frogg Toggs
My currently owned options for an insulating layer include:
- Army liners: VERY warm, 15oz
- Fleece: warm, 17 oz
- Winter biking pants: very light stretch fleece, windproof fronts, not as warm as above, much more compact than either of the above, 10.5 oz
Has anyone hiked with anything similar? How did they work? I'm thinking they could be warm enough when combined with the silk long underwear and convertible pants.
Guess I'll be out testing tonight.
Hmmmmmm......
