I am on a tarp tent kick. (forgive me Hammock Nation, for I have sinned) I am a do it yourselfer. I am going to make a Henry Shires Original Tarptent to try out the concept. (Although, with Shire's modest pricing it's tempting to just buy) Naturally, I'm going to modify it a bit,because I can <G>

Is there a site where everyone just obscesses non stop about the subject??

I've been to tarptent site and searched the "tarptent" pretty thoroughly, so I'll be suprised if I missed it.

For discussions about making tarptent you might look at the forums at thru-hiker.com (http://thru-hiker.com/). I appreciate the DIY spirit, but I think the updated designs that Henry is now selling are superior to his original design and is well worth the cost.

I agree the newer designs are better. My planned mods involve raising the low side of the original and adding netting there. For ease of construction, I am omitting the hoop at the foot end and using a pole instead (Like the squall? I'm still not fully conversational re. the various models)
