I have a couple of years of planning and training to attempt a thru-hike northbound. How much $ should I be looking at to carry in order to make it to Maine. Looking for ideas right now nothing concrete and any guidance is appreciated.

Most here on WB say anywhere between 3 to 6 K excluding equipment and transportation to/from the trail depending upon the degree of "luxury" on your hike, though you'll hear about the occaisional extremes of a little over a thousand to upwards of 8K. Obviously, a lot depends upon hiking style and how much you use motels, town meals, town drinks, the quality of food you eat, etc. It is also very dependent upon how long your hike takes: a 3 month hike will cost proportionately less than a 6 month hike due to not only less time on the trail, but also less time in towns.
