I was told on another thread that VA DMV would have AT plates available this Spring......apparently not. I just registered my van here and wanted to get an AT plate as soon as it's available. This is the response I just got back from them when I asked them when I could get the plate:

Currently, DMV does not have an Appalachian Trail license plate in production. The plate may be up for review by the VA General Assembly this Spring but will not be available to purchase this Spring.

I know they had to get 350 or so within 3 months starting around the time of Trail Days last year. If you contact the ATC office in Blacksburg, they will be able to tell you quickly what the deal is.

I thought it was coming out this Spring as well. A look at the DMV site shows it isn't even in "development."

From the ATC Website:

Virginia DMV estimate that the plates will be issued around March of 2009. At that time, pre-paid applicants will receive their new plates along with stickers that expire in the same month/year as their current plates that are being replaced. If you are within 1-2 months of expiration, the DMV will automatically renew your plates and will bill you for the renewal. This saves you the hassle of immediately renewing your tags after receiving them.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.
