View Full Version : RMNP Permits
Whats the situation with getting backcountry permits for RMNP? I know they limit the # given out, but I was wondering if you have to call like 6 months in advance like Yosemite in order to get one?
For those of you who live in Colorado, can you decide you want to go backpacking there in oh say 2 weeks (not now of course) and get a permit or do you need to decide months in advance?
Thanks,
Matt
Here's some helpful info;

I've often gone to the backcountry ranger station that very day to pick up a permit. Backcountry/camping in general is down all over. Other than maybe holiday weekends, and a few high use areas like the Longs Peak Boulder Field (http://www.nps.gov/archive/romo/visit/park/hike/longspeak.html), a backcountry permit will be easy to get in RMNP. At least that has been my experience. Two weeks will be more than enough to make an RSVP.
If you want, here are some backpacking ideas I threw together. Two are inthe park, one is in the nearby Indian Peaks. All are within 2-3 hrs of Denver.
