ummmm i was debating taking one of these during my thru lol. Not much extra weight unless it's full of course :banana, but then again it's not likely to stay full for very long. And wine is very high in calories so it's another added benifit.

If this one's tougher than a regular platy then go for it. I used a regular liquor-pus down south until it started leaking jameson. that sucked.

I can get a 5 ltr bottle of Franzia for $15. Sure, it tastes like crap...BUT, it comes in a platypus like container (http://www.pmags.com/joomla/index.php/component/option,com_gallery2/Itemid,36/?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=16872)...and if you drink enough of it you don't mind the taste. ;)

Getting a box o' wine for my hut trip this weekend... :sun

Some of the rougher reds are improved by exposure to oxygen.

It's fine little wine that I think will amuse you with it's impertinance.

Well, I am going to over 11k ft. (http://www.huts.org/hut_details/section_house_hut_details.html).not too much 02. ;)

Maybe the lack of 02 will make it taste better. :D

Orson Welles Frowns on your Shenanigans. He will sell no wine before it's time. Wine should be drunk from it's natural decanter, A CARAFE!

I need a fine crystal carafe for backpacking....or perhaps titanium.

Not to derail this thread even further, but of all the box wines available here in Rhode Island, I like the 'Little Black Box' series. I took a trip to Baxter Park last fall and humped in a box of Pinot Grigio and a box of Cabernet, and it was completly fantastic at the end of a long day.

Actually, the really big Marine-looking guy just back from Iraq humped it in, not I. He was happy to carry wine instead of clips of 5.56mm rounds.

Nothing like shrimp cocktail and pita pizza for Happy Hour snacks at Chimney Pond.

Back to topic...

Finally, I'm not a big burly marine (A short Eye-talian from RI believe it or not), but I've been known to pack in the grape a few times...including 5 ltr boxes... ;)

You don't strike me as a cork sniffer either.
