According to the trail map there is parking available at Deep Gap... How safe would you say this area is to leave a car for two days? How easy is it to get to?

Thanks!

I'm assuming you are referring to Deep Gap, NC, just south of Standing Indian ?

The DIRT Forest Service road is close to six miles long from Hwy 64, and is CLOSED during the winter months a lot of time. I guess someone else can tell you more about that.

Times I have parked there were on the weekends and parking lot was fairly full of vehicles. I've never had a problem there.

This is for May.... as long as there is ample parking and it is safe then I have all the details figured out for my trip.

Thanks!

it's a well graded forest service road. don't need a truck to get there. call ron haven in franklin for details. he owns the the budget and sapphire motels. he's listed in trail towns and services

Everytime I have walked through there, the parking lot has always had at least one car there. Been through there a bunch of times!

There is a quite a bit of traffic through there despite it being a dead end. I believe that a local ridgerunner is based out of there and there is a lot of day hiking. I expect that it would be safe to park.

Parked there numerous times...very safe and secure for me.:)

Ditto. And as LW said, you don't need a high-clearance vehicle to get in there. My Jetta makes it just fine.

My 89 Blazer is so F%$#ed up that when I leave it there, the locals actually replace parts on it.
