How should I safe-proof all my gear and backpack for my plane ride to Atlanta. I know how they are with suitcases, and without my gear... I'm done for. Thanks for the help guys.

I'm no expert but what I am going to do is put everything in clear bags, and put any questionable items (empty feul can, all metal, etc.) at the top of the pack. If they have interest in anything, it will most likely be the stuff at the top.

Other than that, just pray that all goes well.
Good Luck

Good idea on packing the questionable stuff on top.

Also, pick up an old used/cheap duffle bag and pack your pack in it. You can throw it away when you get to GA. It'll keep straps and belts from getting snagged on luggage handling equipment and keep your pack cleaner. I've seen lots of nasty scrapes, tears, grease, etc coming off the baggage equipment.

I'd like to hear too as I plan to fly with my pack in June - to Utah. Any advice is helpful.

You could always ship your pack Ups to the hostel in Georgia. I mailed mine ahead and it made it less of a headache for me.

Buy a duffel bag at an Army-Navy store and put it in that.
