THE 27th ANNUAL GATHERING was held Columbus Day Weekend, Oct. 10-12, 2008, at Concord University in Athens, W.Va., with camping at the Appalachian South Folklife Center in nearby Pipestem, W.Va. Highlighting this year's Gathering were our Saturday night speakers, Gregg Treinish and Deia Schlosberg, who took nearly 2 years to complete an end-to-end traverse of the highest mountains in the Western Hemisphere, the Andes of South America. Their stories complemented the photos and video they took along their journey.
