Did anyone see the ad in the Appalachian Trailway News offering thru hikers a 10% discount on pedicures?

That's a deal!

Journeys, then.

You ever get a professional pedicure during a thru hike?

I would have been afraid to ask.

Now at least one shop is soliciting business from hikers.

Times change.

No ATN. Pedicures on the AT.

Pedicures are one of the quickest ways to assure blisters for most people. They sand off all the natural callouses from your feet's abrasion points, insuring that skin is soft with no protection at all.

When I worked with NOLS, the school sent literature to students saying to AVOID pedicures before a course. Those young ladies who frequently got pedicures were nearly always among our most heavily blistered.

What is ATC thinking?!

No, I missed that ad somehow. Page 46 Jolene's Hair Studio in Duncannon, PA. Halfway there and a discount on pedicures. Cool! I can just imagine my feet needing it badly!!! They are pretty disgusting after only a week. It just says for hikers, so I guess you don't have to be thru....

Bearpaw, I guess you could ask them to just do the nail area and not sand the callouses...

But why pay money for something I already do for myself before every hike? It just doesn't seem like a good idea.

Any place near the trail do those funky fish pedicures where you put your feet in basins of water with live fish that nibble the dead skin off your feet? Seems like that would be better than the sanding/filing of callouses that is part of most pedicures?
I'm a pedicure junky when we can afford them.
Thanks for the advice on NOT getting one before a hike, I'll treat myself after.

After a couple stinky, blistered feet hiker pedicures they'll probably raised their rates.
