Cool spend a couple nights at the campground by Ghost Ranch. It's pretty nice.

You may want to consider taking the South Kaibab trail down and the Bright Angel trail up so that you won't have to backtrack. The South Kaibab is steeper and has no water, which makes it a hard up. Also, don't forget to make your reservation early for dinner at Phantom Ranch. The steak dinner is expensive, but a real treat (there's also stew). Enjoy.

Ditto JaFrost. South Kaibib is absolutely beautiful. Zero water and it gets hot at the bottom so be prepared. I carried alot and electolye powder. If you like a cold beer, you can get one at Phantom when you arrive. If not, a cold soda. Ice water, etc. This goes even if you are not staying there. The steak dinners were reserved 13 months ahead to time when we made our reservation. The stew was fantastic and you get plenty of food. Check out the evening ranger program. Bright Angel has water at several spots going up and it does not really get challenging until three miles from the top-Thee mile resthouse. You will love this trip. Enjoy!

I don't suggest spending the night at Ghost Ranch unless you rent your own cabin. They stuff you in the dorms like sardines and there's no other place to sit except on your bed. For $38 per person it ain't worth it. If I'm not mistaken a cabin for 4 is cheaper. That said I never saw the inside of one.

Original OP here. Completed the hike last weekend. Great time. Temp was unseasonal as it was 120 degrees at Phantom ranch. Rangers had to make 8 heat related rescues. They also reported that on one day they had reports of three pairs of shoes coming unglued and unusable. Seems shoe makers are using a new glue to hold the soles on and it doesn;t stand up to heat very well.

Tnx for all the info....

My wife and I just completed the rim to rim to rim hike of the Grand Canyon. We started on the South Rim and spent the first night at Bright Angel Campground. The second day we hiked to Cottonwood Campground. We left our tent and most of our gear at Cottonwood and hiked to the North Rim and back, a 17 mile day. Day four was back to Bright Angel Campground. We hiked out on Saturday.
