Last I knew, 2006 when I was out on the PCT, Aqua Mira drops aren't sold in California, probably the same for the tablets. They hadn't paid the cash to be tested by the proper authorities (EPA or FDA, or whatever California's version of that is) to be sold out there. You might try the "black market", I'm sure someone that does not live in CA can hook you up.
Good luck.
REI carries "potable aqua" which is the same as AquaMira Chlorine Dioxide tablets.
probably can't find it on the internet because you aren't spelling it correctly, it's "Aqua Mira". Anyway, Campmor has it for $11.99, EMS for $12, etc according to Google. Good luck!
I just use a Visine bottle with bleach in it. I throw a drop in a liter and I have never gotten sick.
It might be because you are more likely to get sick from a privy or sharing food than from tainted water. Or it might be that a drop of bleach works.
You decide.

This site has them fairly cheap, and may even save you a little cash if you get them in bulk. but why get the tablets the drops are more weight efficient and last longer.
you can also try http://www.ultralightdesigns.com (http://www.ultralight%20designs.com)

Vitamin C added to the water AFTER the recommended treatment period elapses - removes the iodine taste.
still turned my stomach, after a few days I would be dehidraited from avoiding it. I find aqua mira to improve the taste of some water and I drink plenty

Funny how different people are affected by water treatment. The taste of Aquamira had me gagging towards the end of my JMT hike in 2006. I didn't treat about half of my water when I went back to the Sierra in '08. I wouldn't recommend others do that though.

I actually love the taste of iodine.
