From the article:

A 22-year-old female was reported missing Sunday evening in Pisgah National Forest, officials said.
The woman had been expected to return from the hike at 6 p.m.

Members of the North Transylvania County Fire Department and the Mills River Fire and Rescue are searching on the main trails and the surrounding woods. As far as they know, she was hiking alone.
The rescue workers have set up a command post on Turkey Pen Gap Trail off Asheville Highway.

I hope this young person is ok.

She has been found safe. She emerged from the trailhead late this morning.

the first link has been updated, bascially she got mixed up and hiked 10miles west of where she was suppose to be, but sounds like she was prepared, she had a map and a hammock

From the latest article update:

Pfundstein said this afternoon that she had realized about dusk Sunday that she was not on the trail she had intended to hike.
She used a trail map to locate a shelter and stuffed a hammock with leaves to stay warm as she camped overnight.
She emerged from the woods this morning near the trailhead where she had parked her car.

She spent the night at Buckhorn Gap Shelter....what a dump! I've always thought that shelter would be a good place to start a controlled burn.

i helped a young lady in the daks who got lost at night... no map, no compass no lamp, no food, just a guidebook. every dayhiker heading into the mtns should be prepared to spend the night in the woods.

Yup, I agree.

And before this goes off the rails, I'm going to close this thread. There is really nothing more to add.
