I found this bag online and was very interested in it? Has anyone tried it? I'm just looking for a bag under $200 that is under 3lbs, and will keep me warm through the spring.

You can get a Marmot pounder (http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___46515?CS_003=2477120&CS_010=46515)(40 degree) for a good price and only a pound.

But a 40 degree bag is only good for the summer and the Arete is listed as 40 degrees. You need a 20 degree bag at least in the spring on the AT. Look at the Cats Meow at Campmor. Or the Campmor down bag gets good reviews here.

I have a warm 40 degree bag already, I didn't notice that, Thanks! I'll check out the Cats Meow, any other suggestions?

Marmot Sawtooth 15 or Mountain Hardwear Piute 20.
Both are right around $200, 600 fill down. Yuo'll also get a much longer life out of down than synthetic, especially if you are using the bag when the low night time temperature is near the bag's temperature rating.

I just looked at this bag and it looks perfect. Thanks! Has anyone ever used this bag? Especially on the AT?

Well to answer your original question, I have a Marmot Arete and I love it. I think it weighs in around 1lb 5 ounces or something, it's ridiculously compressible, and it's extremely warm. It says 40 degrees but I find it perfectly warm when temps are a bit colder; perhaps I'm just a warm sleeper. That being said, I don't plan to be able to use mine until around April or so. If you're looking at a 15 degree, the Marmot Pinnacle is the equivalent of the Arete as the Sawtooth only uses 800 fill down.

I have a Mountain Hardwear Piute (bought last year) that I've used once that I'm willing to make you a good deal on.

Correction, the Sawtooth only uses 600 fill down while the Arete and Pinnacle use 800.

Did a test run at 15 degeees two or three times with my Sawtooth. Tested it in the snow, with a 4 season Sierra Designs tent, a half inch closed cell foam pad , and a one and one half inch self inflating pad. Performed as advertised in my opinion; a nice, comfortable sleep.
