I have been pretty happy with a combination of lightweight pants and shorts -- the pants for hiking when it is cold enough and as camp clothes.

But I was thinking a more flexible lighter combination would be a 3/4 length tight or pant, with shorts on top for hiking... This would be for early spring -- not winter hiking.

I have looked at the following 3 products, which are all advertised more a base layer for skiing than as a tight for hiking/running:

Just curious if anyone has gone this route and what the pros/cons are.

Thanks,
Sean

Beorn wore 'em (without shorts), showed off his nut sack too much.

Heh, I would wear shorts over them during the day... Either a normal hiking short or a running short.

Poly underwear with shorts have been "in style" among mountaineers for years. I like the wool version even better. But those prices scare me off.

Now those look interesting, because I was kind of thinking I want something between a tight and a pant... Tights can get uncomfortable when on too long....

Hmm, what to do... :-)
