Whats up yall,

I've got a great lightwieght solo ten...and I have heavy but good 3 man car camping tents.

I need a lightweight backpacking tent that I can fit my wife, myself and my toddler in.

Any advice? Thanks!

MSR Hubba Hubba. Keep your gear in the two vestibules or at your heads or feet.

Hmm...I would think you would need to include a shoehorn to get two adults and a toddler into a MSR Hubba Hubba. I've got one and it seems a bit small for that. But I guess if you had to you could.

Maybe you're thinking of the Mutha Hubba?

Ditto to Jayboflavin04's suggestion - the Rainshadow 2. My wife and I have used ours for over a year in all kinds of conditions and love it!

I think you meant the Mutha Hubba

I carry the Big Agnes SL-3 and a hammock too

Go Lite has a light weight 4 person freestanding tarp you can buy with a bath tub floor

I meant the Hubba Hubba, but if the family is bigger then the Mutha Hubba it is. Both are great tents.

I don't have one but the Six Moon Lunar Duo looks like a palace and is very lightweight.

I wish they made this one in silnylon. 10# is too heavy, but might be reasonable for what it is.

This one isn't too wide but it's long, has a tough floor and could be used with the tarp of your choice.

How do you know that Nutlub hikes in a dry area ?

The Hubba Hubba is 84" L and 50" W, you need two very short adults and a 5-6 year old max.

Lunar Duo
The floor area is 90" long and 54" wide, that is pretty generous for a double tent but you would only have a spare 10" lengthwise or around 20" at the foot end if both adults are under 70 inches tall . Doable on paper, not sure in real life ( think of toilet breaks, tossing and turning )
As a comparison the Mutha Hubba is 84"x68" (three adults will fit side by side)
the Rainshadow is 84" L and 78-66" wide ( 66" at the rear end)
The BA Seedhouse 3 is 84 L and 60W at both ends, 72W in the middle. Be careful with this one because the hexagonal floor gives lots of dead space.

Not lightest but pretty darn light for a three man, Alps Zephyr 3 (http://www.campbound.com/Alps-Mountaineering-Zephyr-3-Free-Standing-Tent.aspx) and way less expensive.

Base Size: 6'2 x 7'5
Center Height: 41"
Vestibule Depth: 28"
Tent Area: 40 sq. ft.
Vestibule Area: 18 sq. ft.
Tent and Fly Weight: 5 lb. 3 oz.
Total Weight: 5 lb. 7 oz.

Here's my review of the original Tarptent Rainshadow:

The new version, the Rainshadow 2, has more headroom and a better floor design. The original easily fit three full-size people and some of their gear, or two people and all of their gear.

A - I figure he has enough sense to know to use a tarp with it.

Hey Tinker
People that have enough sense to know that they also need a tarp once they have bug protection, call themselves Tarptent users

Another vote for Tarptent Rainshadow 2. It's over half the size of my Kelty Trail Dome 6.
