Do they have booths or swap meets? Would it be worth it to me to set up my booth with AT/FT pics?

BumpJumper
02-21-2009, 19:07
You would have to call the FTA and ask about that. They do have lots of vendors.

The missus and I are thinking about going for the 1st time. What say, Gray, I will if you will! (I wanna see your photography!!!)

I'm getting a new batch together now. I sent a bunch to The Only Wanderer cuz he thought he could sell 'em for me. He had to dump 'em becuz they weren't garage sale material. I'm gonna contact Ron Haven and try to make the Hiker Bash with some fresh ones.

I can only say maybe right now about White Springs although you have planted a seed.

Thanks fo the link. I thought the FT in that acronym were two completely different words.

FT could mean so many things.

Whoops, I meant to put this map in fave sections of the FT thread.

I may see you at White Springs. I still have nightmares about that Spring House there. My parents took me there when I was a little kid and it was still in use.

BumpJumper
02-25-2009, 19:34
What about the spring house? Do tell!:-?

Gray Blazer
02-25-2009, 21:51
They built it around the White Springs. It had a flood gate they would close up to fill the place up. The strange thing is it had more than one level inside complete with changing rooms, bathrooms and concession stands. To a 4 year old kid it was huge and the water was black and deep. I got some closure years later when our boyscout troop canoed by it and I was able to go inside to see what it was all about 15 years later.

I don't know why the script changed to italics.

Gray Blazer

Had a good time on Friday, but left Saturday about noon. We need the rain, but dang!
Kind of hard to have a good group camping trip when everything is soaked and blowing around.

White Springs is really nice. Sat was a beautiful day.

Lots of good places to stay, camp, hike, swim, canoe and soak up a little FL history.

Did they have many vendors/booths this year? I love White Springs, but I have never been to the conference.

Gray Blazer

There were a coupla info booths about different trails including that canoe trail you told me about. I didn't seee any vendors except for the normal State Park FL crafts cabins.

Hey, did you guys hear about the boyscout who was attacked by a rabid bobcat in the Withalacoochee State Forest yesterday? I'm not sure if he was on the FT. The bobcat jumped on his back while the scouts were hiking. His friends helped him. The bobcat went on to attack a 71 year old man.

wahoo
04-02-2009, 11:45
Heard about the bobcat. I think they were on the Croom Trails (FT Loop). I see lots of scouts out there. I'm not surprised about the bobcat though, seems to be a healthy concentration of them in the Withlacoochee.

Nah, no vendors really. Well, Brasington's was set up inside selling some gear. The rest were mainly info booths. The folks from the Len Foote Hike Inn had a booth, Alabama Hiking Trail Society, Suwannee River Wilderness Trail, American Hiking Society - stuff like that.

Wait a sec - couldn't have happened on the Croom Trails. That's in Hernando, the bobcat attack was in Citrus. Silly me!

I didnt make the conference. The weather reports were such that I did not want to drive my beast up there in those winds, only to get there and sit in all weekend. I canceled.
Sorry I missed it though.

Deb, we need to get together for a good hike. :banana
