On my thru hike how will I resupply my stove fuel? That is, how many towns have camping stores? (P.S. I am not shipping fuel...)

Its not hard to find it along the way. We purchased all our canisters before hand and initially had them shipped but then quit because it was not needed. We traveled with alchohol & white gas users and they had no problems as well. You will learn to gauge your fule consumption and plan accordingly.

Many of the hostels/outfitters will have denatured alcohol/white gas that you can purchase by the ounce to top off your container.

For canisters you will need to get to an outfitter to purchase. So, it is a little more difficult to obtain.

If you don't already have the Companion (https://www.atctrailstore.org/catalog/iteminfo.cfm?itemid=634&compid=1), Appalachian Pages (http://www.appalachianpages.com/) or the Handbook (http://trailplace.com/hb_2009edition.html), you should consider it. They all contain town data which will include locations of outfitters and whether or not hostels provide denatured alcohol/white gas.

See you on the trail,
