I have a nice little radio I sometimes bring hiking (Sony SRF-M37V) since it has good reception and 1 AAA lasts a long time. I'm wondering if I should bother to bring it on a section hike of GA, is there anything to listen to? I can handle Top 40, prefer rock, modern country is sufferable in a pinch. I don't plan to listen while hiking (lost signals in gaps, earbuds pop out of sweaty ears) but it is nice to have something to listen to a night before sleeping.

Thanks

Matt

97.1 for much of the hike. Decent station if you're into classic rock.

Get a pair of "over the ear buds, they stay on with sunglasses and you can just wear one, in a pinch.

You'll likely pick up 50,000 watt clear channel AM stations from cities like Pittsburgh, Boston, Philadelphia, St. Louis, and Atlanta. Most if not all of these will be programming sports and/or talk shows.

Besides those, you will probably be able to pick up sporadic signals on both AM and FM, and have a variety of music genres available to you. The key word here is sporadic unless you have an exceptional receiver.

If you want to get, um, serious about radio in the woods—check into the, um, Sirius Stiletto portable satellite radio. You'll never lack for entertainment until the battery needs charged. 150 channels. Check out the content at www.sirius.com (http://www.sirius.com). You can get a free 3-day trial and listen to most of the channels online to see if you think it's worth it.

Has anybody tried passing the dark hours hunting around for signals with a shortwave radio? :) I should fire mine up again one of these days...

Yes, you can hear news you won't hear from the US infotainment media.

Boortz too

I don't think Boortz is on 550, Boortz is on WSB 750 out of Atlanta in the mornings I think.

550 WDUN out of Gainesville does have a really up and coming lady, Martha Zoeller at 9AM-Noon. Then Rush, then Hannity. That is 9 fine hours of conservative talk radio. I really drive a liberal crazy at work. I make him listen to it for 9 hours. It usually keeps him out of my space!!!

If your radio reception gets fuzzy,
you can stick your ear in any privy.
The sound will be just about the same.
