I haven't done any hiking on this trail but would like to thru-hike this trail beginning 6/28/09. I'm aware that there are serious blackfly problems on the Long Trail in VT at this time of year. Are blackflies a problem on the Cohos Trail?

Thanks for the link to the trail assoc.! I just checked their website but there wasn't any information about the blackfly issue. I just emailed them and hopefully they will get back to me. Anyone here have some info. on the blackflies?

Black flys are past thier peak by July, but are around all summer. If they start to get bothersome in the afternoon, its a good sign a T-Storm is likely soon.

I did the Rt 110 to Dixville notch section a couple of years ago. Was easier than expected, as it followed snowmoblie trail for much of it and some road walking (dirt).
The section just south of there, Rt 2 to Rt 110 is really nice. No water for a long streach though from RT 2. A fantastic view of the northen presidentals lined up in a row from Owls head, you can see all the way from Crawford notch to Gorham.

You should be clear of Black flies by 6/28. Skeeters will still come to visit in the evening.
