I got some great response on my last post about where-to-hike suggestions for someone like myself who had a stroke and is dealing with a
moving but slow right leg. Among the 3-day, 2-nighters I want to do this year is the following in the Taconics:
Begin at the parking lot on East Street
Sages Ravine
1st night at Laurel Ridge Campsite
Next day cross over Race Mountain
2nd night at Race Brook Falls Campsite
last day-picked up at Rt. 41 pullover.
I've been up and down the Race Brook Falls Trail before and that is not a problem. Steep trails are ok. But rock scrambling is a problem. I know that the AT from Sages Ravine up on Race Mountain is "on the edge", but does it involve steep rock climbing. And lastly, are there trees to pitch my hammock at Laurel Ridge Campsite?
I use knee braces, two hiking poles, and will be toting about a 15 lb. pack with everything except water.
