I looked online, can't find mine.

Put an item in your cart and go to checkout. It will show up in the block that asks "Do you want to use your Dividend?" Mine was available last Wednesday (I think). I got my dividend in the mail yesterday.

Thanks. $58.53 having the REI credit card helped. I didn't spend all that much last year on gear.

Will it be 20% off one item?

20% off one regularly priced item.

Also excludes hard-shell boats, non-Novara brand bikes, GPS, two-way radios, ski boots/bindings, snowboards, or PLB's. The usual low-margin items as listed on the back of the coupon.

Actually it is. Too bad a lot of the stuff I REALLY like REI doesn't carry.

Oh, I see what you mean. That dividend wasn't from REI purchases. It comes from using their credit card. 1% of all purchases. A buddy of mine that travels a lot for work always doubles me.

OK, saw your credit card comment. I just got and started using one in mid-Dec. Using it a lot - groceries, gas, etc. -- should have a large dividend next year too! :)

Just be sure to keep it paid off every month. The interest rates are high and will kill your benefits from your dividend if not careful. But my REI Visa is from my bank, so I easily pay it off regularly. It paid off this year too with over $100 back, and I bought relatively little gear or casual clothing from REI.

From what everyone else says, it sounds like the REI Visa is the jam though.

I used my REI Visa during my thru-hike, paying by credit card whenever possible, instead of using cash or debit card. Major dividend the following year. We still use the REI Visa as our primary credit card. Compared to air miles that might evaporate before you use them or other illusory Rewards, getting dollar for dollar money at REI is our best deal. If there's no gear or clothing we want, we can always buy camping meals and fuel and socks.

I also have a $50 gift card for getting the REI Visa, so hmmm, what to buy with $83 free? The $99 REI Camp Dome Tent (with 20% off member discount, would cost me nothing), or Black Diamond Trekking Poles (same, no cost)? What's your impression/knowledge on the Camp Dome Tent?

$445.00. We use the REI credit card for everything, and pay it off every month. Heck, we were able to pay our kid's tuition, room, and board on the card this year.

Yeah, me neither, so here's what we did so we could "spend" our REI dividend elsewhere:

We bought a Montbell #0 UL SS Down Hugger from a local outfitter for my wife. Cost about the same as our entire REI dividend.

Now for the hard part: we are NOT going to spend the dividend. This summer, we will ask for the cash dividend, and put it back in our savings account, replacing the money we spent on the bag. (Like I said, this is the hard part....)

Last year we spent the entire dividend on a luxury item, a hitch-mount, swing-away bike rack for our truck. Makes it a lot easier to bring the bikes on our long car-camping trips. So that was kinda cool.

The scare part is how many people are running $40,000 or more through their REI VISA cards every year. I thought I was the only idiot doing that.

We have the REI card for our household expenses, so our dividend is usually pretty hefty.

You can request it in a check if you want, which is what we do.

I only got back 42.80 this year.
Been looking at a new static rope for rappelling.

$138 minus 20% is 110.40
Minus 42.80 = 67.60

YEP...

A whopping $13.78. Actually I'm surprised it's that high, I wonder if renting a canoe for the weekend counted toward my dividend?

Anyway, time for a new headlamp as soon as the sale hits!

$72 dividend plus a $25 gift card from my birthday - - that's a lotta Java Juice packets! Or new socks? Or maybe hold out for the new Neo Air mat from Thermarest? Decisions decisions........better spend it before it's taxed out of existence though. :(

$114 this year. Didn't buy much gear this year. That came from using the CC. And lucky for me, I'm married to a C.P.A. He pays off everything right away, because he watches every single penny. He also knows me well, and gave me a $50 REI gift card last month for our 24th wedding anniversary. (Maybe he's trying to tell me to buy more gear and get out of the house more often?)

Gonna wait for the sale and see if I can get a good deal on a daypack. I've been patching the old one together with duct tape while I've waited for the dividend.

What's your impression/knowledge on the Camp Dome Tent?

The Camp Dome is a decent scout tent or car camping tent. For backpacking, the Half Dome is a much better option, with a better vestibule (well, a vestibule). If you're in the market for new poles, get the BD's.

$455.94.
I think I win the (biggest idiot) award.

Just spent a few hundred with Montbell for some cool lite gear that REI doesn't sell. Should do the Big Cranky thing and cash out later in the year, to pay for shopping with vendors that sell quality gear.

Dunno, I'm only $10 behind you. Paying a year's worth of my kid's tuition, room, and board on the card added about ten grand to my total.

You will definitely feel better waiting and cashing out this summer to retroactively pay for your Montbell purchases. At least I think that's how it's going to feel. Maybe we can form a support group.

There are sales throughout the year where members get 20% off coupons. Seriously, considering the one-time cost of becoming a member (I think it was $20 this past Christmas, when we gave memberships to a couple of our kids), it doesn't take much spending to pay it back. One 20% off on a sleeping bag and you're way more than there.

bigcranky

You get the 20% off as soon as you join. We did that for our daughter last year -- the discount on a pack more than made up for the membership fee.
