Go NOBO out of Damascus, Grayson Highlands is the best part of VA, and thats just north of Damascus.

Go to Damascus, park your car there, and get shuttled by one of the outfitters north to Mt. Rogers HQ (near Partnership Shelter) and hike the 70 or so miles south back to Damascus.
