i've been having some health problems due to weight loss. i think?? Doc advised me to take a break to fix what is wrong. the final straw was dizzy spells. hope to be back in shape soon and on the trail again :) thanks everybody for your support and kind words. heading home on Greyhound. well not really, snowed in in Roanoke for the LAST 8 HOURS and they said no to hammock hanging in the terminal. i bet they JUST made up that rule.
Take care, Karl, and I hope you can get your problems sorted out and get back in The Trail. A visit home is not a bad thing.

Hi Karl,
I just signed your TJ. Probably a good idea to take a break for a while. Dizzy spells are a scary thought especially when no on else is around.

Karl, sorry to hear you're off the trail. Get well soon and get back out there. Are you sure it wasn't vertigo? I got that hiking last year. At one point, I was in my tent, laying down, and hanging on to the ground cause it felt like I was gonna spin off the earth. Watch your salt intake if it is.

Oh Noooo! Reading your trail journal had become my daily fix. If all else around was in the crapper, at least I could live the dream vicariously through you. I wish you good health and a speedy recovery and when you can hit the trail again there will be lots of people pulling for you.
Great job so far on the hike! Get some rest, take care of your health and get back out there!

You are doing awesome to be this far up the trail. BUT-- it's not a race. Get those
health issues sorted out first. The trail will always be there. You've been out in some very bad weather. Body needs a lot more carbs in that cold weather. Sometimes a person is tired at the end of the day and just doesn't feel like eating. Got to keep shoveling fuel in the furnace. You'll figure it out and be back before long. Have enjoyedfollowing your hike this far. Good luck.

Get healthy, have fun. If you ain't got one, you cannot maintain the other.
And you are loved Karl.........
Just keep us posted.......
Like Marta said, a vist home isn't such a bad thing. Get home, get helthy and get back out there when it feels right for you. When you get there, keep on keepin' on! Good luck for a continued successful thru, Karl!
Been following your journal. I know what it's like to be off the trail with health issues. Take care of yourself and good luck the rest of the way.
Happy hiking. :sun
hope you checked out that train museum otherwise I did not find Roanoke to be a good place for a hiker waiting for the bus -was told I had to leave the library because I had a pack-I was even cleaned up and new clothing

Hey karl, hang in there man,get well and head back out .
Lots of time left this season, and the weather will be nicer.
I just looked at your TJ...You sure are a shadow of your former self. I really think that, once the weather warms up, you won't have nearly as much of a problem with losing weight.
And, on the up side, if you can stabilize at your current weight, it'll be a lot easier to haul the new, thinner you up those mountains.
