Do you keep your pack in your tent in the vestibule or do you hang it somehwere?

Hang it off the end of my hammock.

thats a really good question. when i use a tent i keep it in the tent. that way i know its safe and dry. the problem i have is switching to hammocks. i dont have a fix place i put it there. i have kept it wrapped up in my poncho under me but i dont like that. after a long day i can sleep hard and the pack can sprout legs and walk off that way. it doesnt happen much but it has happened to people and i dont want it to happen to me.

ideally, inside my tent...
last summer though i had a really small tent (and small vestibule) so i just left it outside (w/ the rain cover on) on the ground...no problems

Inside the bivy under my feet since I use a short pad, sometimes inside out to make better padding

Sometimes inside the tent under my feet (if I'm using my chair as a torso pad). Otherwise, in the vestibule, usually inside the bag I line it with.

To make camp, I completely empty my pack. So if someone wanted to walk off with the pack, they aren't getting much (except the empty pack bag) of resale value.

In the winter, inside my tent under my lower legs since I just have a three quarter lenght sleeping pad. It is a nice rest for my feet and keeps them elevated. In the summer, sans food (in hang bag) I hang it on a low branch with a pack cover on it.

Pack is my pillow.
food bag goes under my feet and props them up.
Nothing goes outside. (I lost a shoe once to a coyote)

Inside the tent, not too close to the wood stove. But I'm like some other people here, I tend to empty my pack at camp.

Usually hanging from the tree I am sleeping under, or next to my head within reach.
Sometimes under the bluefoam pad to level the ground, or to lift my knees, or as a pillow.

All 3, but more likely one a tree or under a vestibule.

Preferably, hanging on a tree nearby, but in foul weather I bring it into the tent. I do make sure that I remove EVERYTHING from my pack and leave all of the pockets unzipped and wide open. That way the mice don't have to chew their way into my pack or it's pockets to discover that there is nothing there but residual smells.

Thanks. Don't know why I haven't thought/heard of that.

I do the X thing with my poles leaning up against a tree, hang my pack on them then cover with my pack cover. This way it aint on the ground and it is covered. Never did I put it in my tent.

under my tarp, no food in it. use to hang it on a tree till a bear showed me that was not effective.

Been said before, but I hang mine off the end of my hammock.... Clothes stuff sack serves as a pillow in the hammock, food bag hung from a tree PCT style, and pack is open.

It has to depend on what shelter system you're using, and to some degree the type of country you're in. If I'm cowboy camping, I have no tent, then it's a matter of whether I'm concerned about rodents in the area or not. I stayed in one area where anything like a pack that wasn't inside a tent needed to be hung high to keep goats from destroying it (trying to get salt off of a pack for example). Similarly, sometimes marmots will damage gear.

In wet weather if I'm in a not-so-roomy shelter, it works fine to put pack and any gear I don't need in a tent (or under tarp) with me inside a black plastic yard waste bag. This is a fine solution for hammock users too --- hanging it off the end might or might not keep it dry enough depending on the size of overhead tarp you've got and how it's pitched. Ditto bivy sack users.

So, I think the "best" solution has to vary with the situation.
