on the park trail map it shows that Balsam Mtn Rd is one-way and it connects to Straight Fork Rd, which is a two-way road.

if i come up Straight Fork from Big Cove Rd at what point does it become a one-way road?

thanks much.

The two-way section ends at Round Bottom, in the vicinity of the east trailhead for the Beech Gap Trail; just after crossing Straigt Fork.

Straight Fork Road is not scheduled to open for the season until March 13.

The road is now closed at the gate which is approximately at the park boundary. Plan on adding about 3 miles each way if you are headed to the Balsam Mountain Trail via the Beech Gap Trail. I discovered that weekend before last when I thought I was going to take a short hike in to #44. Apparently it has something to do with Cherokee fishing rights. The ranger wasn't too specific.
