I'm not into the whole tarp or hammock thing, I will be buying a tent for my thru hike and have narrowed it down to 2. Does anyone own either of these or have any useful info in helping me decide? Thanks.

1) Sierra Design Velox 1 http://spadout.com/p/sierra-designs-velox-tent/

2) Marmot EOS 1 http://spadout.com/p/marmot-eos-1-person/

I never owned any of those tents, but I like looking at tents -- always in the market...

Anyway, as I was looking at them I noticed this one http://spadout.com/p/big-agnes-seedhouse-1/ I like because it's full screen, very nice when it's warm out and I like the visibility (barring use of rainfly). However, it's the price I like the best, don't wast money on those expensive tents, you really don't get much for it.

Also, don't waste money on a footprint, I don't use them and my floor of my cheap tent still has many years left.

How tall are you?

All of the ones mentioned, including the Fly Creek are both short in length and short in height.

I am 5'10 and 165lbs. I like the big agnes but I want a side entrance.

Also I can only spend around $200, but I will go to $250 if absolutely necessary.

SAC had that Sierra Designs tent for $125 with a footprint yesterday. You might watch for it again. I think SD is introducing all new tents for 2009, so watch for closeouts on their other products.

You really can't go wrong with a Sierra Designs. My experience with their CS department was awesome. No questions asked guarantee.

MSR Hubba gets consistently good reviews. Might look around and see if there's a deal.

We liked our hubba hubba.

The Eos does not have enough head room for you, in fact not enough for me, I'm 5'7".

The Velox would be too little room for my tastes. I solo mostly and love my Sierra Designs Lightning, which is a two-person tent at about the same weight as the Velox. Although manufacture discontinued, you can still find them around at real deal prices - like recently $129 someone reported. That's what I paid for mine over a year ago. I insist on being able to get all my gear (except food) in the tent with me. The Lightning accommodates that! One "zero day" rainy day spent in one of your choices and you'll really be wishing you had more room.
