I'm planning (daydreaming about) a trip in the Cohutta and Big Frog Wilderness areas in early June. How reliable are the springs at Double Spring Gap and Big Frog Mountain? Are they relatively easy to locate?

Are there any online resources that I can check for updates?

Thanks,
Gladiator

Its been many years ago now, but I remember we got water on Big Frog in Spring anyway-don't know about June. Its not too far down the side to get to water if its not on top as well.

Mags was just there about 10 days ago. Send him a PM.

I carry a 2 liter platy and never ran out of water on my BMT hikes through the Cohuttas and Big Frog area a couple of months ago

I don't remember water being an issue in the wilderness areas. Able to get water easily enough. As an aside, I rarely ventured far from the trail for water by choice. Of course, I went at the tail end of winter. Someone more familiar with the area may be able to tell you what the springs are like in Summer.

I hiked through in the drought last year. I had no water issues.

the spring on top of Big Frog does run dry at times. It's a small rocked in seep right beside the trail and at times is flowing right across the trail and at other times is just a mud hole.

Is the source you're referring to as being not too far down the side the double springs?
