Thanks TJ!

I'm going to buy a copy. But I love the on-line version. I keep one on my smartphone so when I am thinking about hitting the trail, I can use it to plan as I sit around waiting in line or ridding in a car (not driving).

I love the fact ALDHA does this.

I was just looking at it. I guess they changed the page sizes?

Not sure, Acrobat opened and stayed at 232% page size. I think ALDHA formatted the .pdf pages differently is all - one page to a .pdf page now instead of two side by side in the older version.

Well they were taller. You know the companion had that annoying set up that made it 9" tall but 4" wide - and the pdf file looked just like the book.

I like my older Thu-Hikers handbook because it was a more normal 5" x 8" and then the AP when it came out because it was that same size.

Anyhow, when I looked at the 09 Companion the pages looked more like 5" x 8" - I haven't seen a real 09 Companion yet to know if they changed the size.

Yup, the book has been 'right sized' per hiker input. The old size was designed to fit in the side pocket of external frame packs. The old Philosopher's Guide, when it was an ATC publication, was normal sized too - not the Companion tall and narrow dimensions.

Rock,

The 2009 Companion is more like the other two now, and it measures 5.5" wide x 7.25" deep. Not exactly the same (5x8) but closer.

Yup, it's made to fit inside a quart size ziploc.

Now that would make a great marketing talking point!

It would.

I keep mine in a gallon bag though. It doubles as a map cover. The map folded out to the area I am walking in, and on the back side is the page that covers the section I am hiking. The rest of the guide is in my pack.

This is awesome. I just realized after reading the Forward that Leslie Mass is the same person who wrote "In Beauty May She Walk."
