I was out hiking the other day and I had one. Big Mac. I could literally taste it in my mouth.

It has happened before on the trail with other food. Fried chicken with tabasco.

Anyone else get this?

Reminds me of when i was training for the long ultra races.
A fellow runner told me a story of his first 100 miler: He had an obsessive craving for a bologna sandwich.
So much so that he made his support people go find him one. Someone drove 60 miles RT to get the fixins.

Oh I get the obsessions and the cravings. I'm talking about a real flashback where you can actually taste the food in your mouth.

I think I have had those, but not yet while hiking.
I'll remember the taste and smell of food my mom used to make when I was a kid.
Maybe if I hike a long enough hike to get the real hiker hunger you talk about.

Yesterday afternoon, while trekking through Red River Gorge, I could taste P-I-Z-Z-A!!!

This morning, while walking past someone's campsite, I smelled their bacon eggs, and I thought I was going to turn in to a grizzly!

I had that on my hike yesterday. Started thinking of Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. Brought back memories of all those food cravings. Boy were they intense.

Broiled liver, bacon and onion. :p
I had a friend in the Navy that used to say " Someone has to take a stand on liver. I'd rather stand on it than eat it." On the other hand I love it.

Just got back from hiking in Arizona around Agua Fria and was putting the gear away and could actually taste mac and cheese in my mouth. We had that on monday night. A week before I was home. My wife thought I had lost it when I ran upstairs and got out a box of mac and cheese to make for dinner.

For me it's foods I really enjoy like key lime pie--just thinking about it and I can taste it right now. The only problem is if I can taste it I want it and will not be hapy until i actually get it--fortunately lunch today includes key lime flavored yogurt.

Why not? It sounds like you can eat, without eating.
