What do you use to read at night? I have a Photon 3, but am trying to find a way to hold it on my book at night. Any hints, or other lights to consider?

I just purchased a Petzl Tikka Plus headlamp. Haven't used it yet, but it doesn't require hands, and it can be put onto 4 different settings, including a reading brightness, which is definitely bright enough, and it'll last about 150 hours on that setting before changing the 3 AAA batteries. It comes with the first set, and weighs a total of 78 grams, listed, with batteries. I weighed it in at about 2.8oz.

Is that the one with the headband, or the retractable string thing?

Tikka has the headband, the other one has the same light, but the string, and weighs about .5oz lighter. I liked the headband, probably going to be a bit more comfortable.

Edited to add: the one with the string is the Zipka model.

Have you ever seen one of these things?

Save some money. In my gear chest there are 3 Princetontech torches, 3 Black Diamond Moonbeams, 2 Tikkas, 1 Tactikka, but my favorite and the most function/dollar is this headlamp:

I have 3 of these and got them all at Walmart for around 12/each.
This lamp is brigh enough to nighthike with and is sweet if you dont mind reading via the red lamp. You could read with the white lamps at a 100 feet.

For the price of one Tikka you could have 2+ Energizers.

I bought mine at Wal-Mart too. Doesn't have the red light but has three levels of white light, plus a small green dot that blinks so I can find it if I need to pay a visit to the privy in the middle of the night. Works great and am very glad I didn't pay big bucks for the same thing with the Tikka name.
