Hello, since this is straight forward I will cut to the chase. I want to start planning a hike from CT to Deleware Water Gap and I am just wondering if anyone that has hiked this stretch can tell me about how long I can expect it to take. Thank you.

If you start in Kent, it's about 175 miles. If you average 15 miles a day, say 2 weeks, 3 if you take your time.

Thank you very much, that is a little quicker than I though. I was thinking 3-4 weeks. It will be a great goal for me and not only will I not be putting any emissions into the air from a car but it will be well worth the trip for the personal satisfaction as it will be my longest hike but also for a home cooked meal from my grandmother as soon as I arrive at the gap! I lived there for 2 months in 2005 and always wanted to hike but never had a good chance. Thank you again for the information I apreciate it more than you know.

Please keep us posted. My brother is in CT and I'm trying to get him to hike with me. I'd love to hear how your trip goes.

You don't mention what kind of shape you are in or anything about your pack weight. Only folks in good trail shape can do 15 mile days right out of the gate. Take 3-4 weeks and enjoy your hike.

I got my brother started by telling him to put up or shut up. Once I got him out there, he became a trail maniac. We do 50-75 miles together every year now.

I am in pretty good shape and I have a strong will. I will be honest though, I havent been able to do any hiking in the past 2 years besides some local day trips. I am not sure what gear I will be packing as of this moment as I am still doing alot of research. Jax, how far do you plan on going? If you plan on hiking down past PA and would like some company let me know. If I slowed you down at all I wouldnt want you to feel any obligation to wait up for me. I think I will take Tin Mans advice and take my time. I have been on the AT in western mass for a 7 day trip when I was in my early teens and have been on the trail in Deleware Water Gap and it amazes me how beautiful the trail is and how awesome and friendly the people are on and off the trail. I really need to get away from everyday people and just enjoy myself and hopefully I will have some good company along the way. If you need any more information about me please feel free to ask. I am not ready to jump on the trail tomorrow by any means but I want to get started and do what it takes to get it done. If I could do it this year that would be amazing. Thank you guys so much for the responses, it means alot to see there are people left in this world that are actually willing to help if needed. Thanks again.

Oh, don't make the mistake I did last year and do that section during the hotest 10 days of the summer. Man, that was brutal!

Yea, I think I will try to avoid June/August thanks! I know here in RI even the nights can be pretty brutal.

Not sure if this link will work like I hope it will but if anyone has a minute and doesnt mind, is there any way you could take a quick look at this shopping cart and tell me what you think. If you think theres anything I should change let me know. I am trying to get everything at REI so I can avoid having to order stuff, I like to feel before I buy. Also, I have a Kelty coyote 4750 pack just to give you an idea of the space I have. Thanks.

that link doesn't work. shopping carts usually only work for the shopper, not meant to be shared, privacy, ya know.

I hiked from the Hudson River to the Gap (105 miles?) in 5 days last May with a 42 lb pack. From the Hudson to High Point is easy and from there to the Gap is really rocky. I hate rocks so that was the worst part.

Wow, 21 miles a day is pretty impressive. I doubt I can match that but I think ill be able to move at a decent pace. My biggest concern about the whole trip is making sure food drops get to the right locations and I can get to those location on time. Not sure exactly how it works I still need to read up on it but thats really my only worry right now. I would like to do this in the very near future but at the same time I dont want to rush it. Is this something I can get on and go or does it take more planning then I realize?

check the resupply article in the left column on the home page. this might work better for you than mail drops.

I'm not sure. He's active with Scouting with my nephew and they camp a lot but I don't know that they hike much. I really need to work on him. I'd probably be in for about a week's worth of hiking. I want to do more than my normal weekend hikes. Especially if I'm heading all the way up there.

If you are way ahead on time when you reach Harriman SP, you can always take a few days exploring there.

I live near the AT on the CT/NY border. I have many obligations in May, but if the timing is right I may be able to provide a ride for resupply or assist in some other way.
