New to the FT and was wondering what would be the best way to treat water along the FT. Also, what would be the average distance between sources, esp. the Apalachicola Forest area.

I rarely treat my water, but used either a filter or steripen down south of the kissimme becasue of the ag runoff, etc. My hiking partner used a katadyne filter the whole length.

Average distance depends very much whether a wet or dry year. We hiked N Fl last winter and it was bone dry, often more than a day between water sources, the same areas in Apalachicola this year are above knee deep in water right now.

Pump it with a Katadyn Hiker Filter, Boil it, Add 4 drops of bleach then boil it again. The evaporate is safe to drink.

Thanks. I think I'm going with the filter. I got a steripen last August and didn't get through one trip and the thing broke for no apparent reason.

I carry a Katadyn Hiker Pro, but don't use it all that much. When I do need it, I am always glad I packed it.
I have had the water from the Hiker Pro tested, and its pretty darn pure.
