Wouldnt down socks loose their loft awful quick being compressed in your shoes?? Or are they more for wearing when you kick your feet up after a hike?? www.cabelas.com might have em or maybe feathered freinds.

Exped down socks (http://websearch.cs.com/wm/boomframe.jsp?query=down+socks&page=1&offset=0&result_url=redir%3Fsrc%3Dwebsearch%26requestId%3Dc 34b9004933d45a5%26clickedItemRank%3D3%26userQuery% 3Ddown%2Bsocks%26clickedItemURN%3Dhttp%253A%252F%2 52Fwww.backcountry-equipment.com%252Fexped_downbooties.php%26invocati onType%3D-%26fromPage%3DWMTRoll%26amp%3BampTest%3D1&remove_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.backcountry-equipment.com%2Fexped_downbooties.php) I think I answered my own question here ,just out of curiosity I punched down socks into a keyword search and found these down sleep socks from Exped. There also was a pair of down socks from Thorlo but they wernt really down, just called down socks for some reason. Streamweaver

Just ordered them, though they are backordered.
and no I wouldnt hike in them, sleepware as you have now noticed.
My booties are overkill so far, and I'm shaving every ounce I can.
We are thinking into the future...we can almost see Penn/Rocksylvania and have noticed on our winter hikes that rock is not so bad when its covered with 6-12inches of snow....so just planning for this winters hikes wherever they may be.
I didnt like the price though but that is what I was looking for....a good pair of goose down booties can be had for more than half what these costs but again it always comes down to the weight thing.
Thanks again Streamweaver.

Man there were a few cold nights I would have loved to have had those puppies on my feet. Nice. How smart to think of hiking over the PA rocks when there is snow... Some folks got all the brains, guess I was at the end of the line and God ran out. :)

At the time I was trying to work on a thru and snow isn't there that time of year. But the rocks sure were! :( Sue/HH PS: It was nice meeting you at Dot's.

It was a special time, just wish I could have stayed much longer but family first of course and me and little Riley had a blast jumping into the cold water at the cabin later that night.
I could have picked you out of any crowd, never would I have spotted Lone Wolf (I was thinking he was much older but up close he looks much younger than I!)
Was the man you were sitting beside Chappy? if so I got his name wrong: mea culpa
I'm just hoping a lot of us can meet in Maine in September. I've just got to rearrange some birthdays.
