It'd make more sense to have the Long Trail on VT's quarter.

Couldn't agree more, but I'm not making the decision. I always thought it was generous of GMC to allow A.T. hikers use of The Long Trail. IMO the A.T. in Vermont is a footpath which runs between The Maine Junction and Connecticut River.
