Hey, was hoping someone on here could answer the following:

- When is hunting season in Georgia, NC? And, is it appropriate to wear blaze orange is so? Are there many hunters along the trail during hunting season?

- What is the closest town to Hot Springs with public transportation?

Cheers

It's always appropriate to wear blaze orange.

Ashville is 25 miles NW of Hot Springs , not sure any town is closer than that with public transportation.

In GA there is a hunting season for something nearly year round. But large game firearm season is from Oct through Dec. Definitely wear blaze orange in GA during those months. It doesn't hurt to wear some blaze orange year round.

My Marmot Precip is blaze orange. Someone would have to be blind in one eye and unable to see out of the other to shoot me when I'm wearing it!

turkey season is ended earlier this month. should be ok with no blaze. I take it no matter, safe to be cautious

I wear a blaze orange hat whenever weather demands headwear. I've got Blaze-Orange duct tape on my hiking poles (about 20ft of it, j.i.c.)

http://people.delphiforums.com/wbennett10/Fire/SpecialForces.jpgYep, that thought crossed my mind. Good Lord, what is that thing? You could completely miss and still kill your target with it. Looks like what Rambo walked into town with in 'First Blood.' And what are you (or whoever that is in the pic) getting ready to do . . . chop down trees with it? :D

If that barrel unscrewed, that thing might be packable! You know, just in case.

Some variant of an M60 heavy machine gun?

Visit ATC's Hunting and the A.T. (http://www.appalachiantrail.org/site/c.mqLTIYOwGlF/b.4805497/k.C545/Hunting_and_the_AT.htm#hikerawareness) page where you will find the answers you seek.

Unfortunately, some fool out there is altogether capable of mistaking you for an orange deer.

Not likely, Feral Bill. That's why Pennsylvania Game Commission requires everyone on State Game Lands to wear fluorescent orange from November 15 to December 15.

I believe small or bird game is almost year round. Then deer and bear are around Nov. to Jan. But because its the South, a lot of hunters do not care what season it is. Plus I never seen a game warden on the AT around the TN/NC area. I saw a hunting group on Roan Mountain during peak berry picking season and families only a few hundred yards away, which I thought was odd.

But my personal policy is if you are in an unfamiliar area with good access, then expect some hunters. The more remote areas or where there is very little access, you might not expect as much.

What some people believe to be so and in reality is so are sometimes different things. That's why it's best to refer to the source (http://www.ncwildlife.org/pg02_Regs/2008_09_Season_Dates.pdf) for seasons and bag limits for North Carolina which I provided earlier.
