Is anybody aware of a good campsite between Bemis Mtn. Lean-to and Hall Mtn. Lean-to in Maine? I'm doing the section between hwy. 17 in Me. and US 2 in N.H. n-s this summer.

There are spots I've stealthed around Bemis Stream coming down (northbound, going up southbound) off Old Blue, and really throughout your planned section. Keep your eyes open and likely spots will soon stand out.

One of my favorite nights was cowboy camping on Old Blue. I got up there right at dark one night. There wasn't anyone else around, so I decided to sleep right there. It was one of those nights so dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. I woke up about 10pm to a full moon rising so bright that it lit everything up almost like daylight.

I was awake enjoying that beautiful night till about midnight before falling asleep again. :)

Thanks for the info. Does Bemis Stream cross or approach the Trail near Old Blue?

Take the south arm road in Andover, will take you right by the AT where it goes up over Old Blue, limited parking. Bemis Stream is further north on the otherside of the Bemis range.

I've done it 3 times, always in May, no bugs, north bound from South Arm rd, camped on top, USE to come down the clearwater brook trail until it was closed some years ago, making a nice loop hike. Always encounted soft snow, a good 2 feet thick on the back(north) side of it, plenty of water.
