Tin Man
I am sorry someone called you satan on another thread. That was completly uncalled for and as a follower of Jesus, I don't believe it for a minute. Since the statement was made on the wb the apoligy should be also.

Hike strong dude,
See you on the trail.

Thanks Sheepdog. I have religious beliefs and thought that anyone filled with such hate to call me that certainly doesn't know anything about me and cannot be a true christian. At any rate, I feel just as strong as lilred about things on wb lately. The moderation is very haphazard and I am very concerned about the righteous religious posting. A long time ago politics and religion were banned, politics was given a chance in it's own forum and failed. Religion however has made a resurgence; people use it in their posts and their signature lines. It doesn't belong here any more than politics. I respect people's beliefs and politics, but they should keep them to themselves or take them to sites dedicated to those topics. PERIOD.

Religion was never banned. Certain types of religious baiting and such were, but no cart blanch ban of religion has ever been set here. There have been those that have tried to push their own agenda in regards to that.

Politics on the other hand...

To come clean Tin Man, you lumped me into the name calling in post #26 of this thread: http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=48009&page=2

And while you and I were in hot disagreement in yesterday's off-topic thread, I would never call you or anyone that and don't appreciate being accused of doing so. So why don't we just clear the air and I'll start by saying I'm sorry for yesterday and earlier today's harsh words.

Tin Man,

I commend sheepdog's courage to post an apology in a public forum such as this as I believe this speaks volumes for his character. Sheepdog you're a good man! Tin Man, I can't say if I fall in any of the categories that you have listed but I do feel there is a distinction between people that merely make a references to their faith or even have faith centered signature lines on WB and those who are engaging in "Christian mugging" as I myself have termed it in the past.....

There have been many opinions expressed on WB that I personally disagree with but I try to give the same latitude to those individuals who I disagree with as I would want afforded to me..... After all, most people would generally want to remove references they disagree while giving greater deferrence to those views for which they agree.... that's understandable. However, rather than feeling threatened by the diversity of opinions and views it should challenge us to give deference to those you differ with not because you agree with them but rather such deferrence ensures open and honest dialogue would be afforded to you.

I do share in your concern in terms of the dialogue as of late though from probably a different perspective.... Unfortunately, it would seem to me that many call for the removal of such faith based references from the discussion while at the same time deferring a higher level of tolerance to references to topics that many would consider questionable at best. I for one would never question your religious beliefs nor do I consider myself "righeous, religious, holier than thou, etc." myself I'm just a person of faith (in this case a Christian) who believes that there exists a spiritual dimension which is just one of many aspects of my outdoor experience.... it's really not that big of deal (unless others make it a big deal) it's just who I'm am and what I am about... Thus this acknowledgment isn't meant to be offensive but rather an effort on my part to be honest about the perspective that I come from as it relates to hiking/backpacking. In the end, I'm just trying to contribute in a meaningful way like everyone else. If someone wants me to be more specific (and many have) I do my best to take it to the PM channel since it reflects a more personal dialogue.

Okay. Where's the bar? Name your preference.

Tin Man,

I commend sheepdog's courage to post an apology in a public forum such as this as I believe this speaks volumes for his character. Sheepdog you're a good man! Yo mama so ugly when she joined an ugly contest, they said "Sorry, no professionals."

Reminds me of the ugliest foot contest at So Ruck and the guy won when he showed all the toe bones sticking out! Contest was cancelled after that,
