This isn't a thread about carrying MREs or regular food. I just want to share an awesome breakfast food with y'all if you're tired of the usual fare.

There is an MRE French Toast. The syrup is on the inside..it's about twice as big (thick) as a pop-tart. 350 calories.

I always carry one or two MRE's when long distance hiking. I actually like their taste. You never know when there will be no water or your stove craps out or there's a driving storm and you can't cook or you get sick and can't cook. You get the picture.

I'll have to try that entre.

I have to say, the prices of these are quite good, especially the full-meal MRE for just $6.25 (http://www.longlifefood.com/MRE-Full-Meals---12/productinfo/C0091/):

1. Entree

2. Side Dish
3. Bakery Item
(Crackers or Bread)
4. Spread
(Jelly, Peanut Butter or Cheese Spread)

5. Dessert
(Cookies, Energy Bar, Cake or Fruit)
6. Beverage Base
7. Accessory Packet
(Coffee, Creamer, Sugar, Salt,
Gum, Matches, Wet Nap, Long Handle Spoon)

I've seen individual pouches of Mountain House - just the entree - going for about this in some of the outfitters I've been to lately.

I'm definitely bookmarking this site.

What is the weight on the MRE's?

be aware that the cheaper prices are without the heater pack. I'm sure some you will not want the heater pack but just letting you know.

MREs are heavy. I must admit I wasn't that impressed. Taste was so so. The heater pack didn't work too good either. Only made lukewarm food at best. (we had the dinners)

But I like the idea of having French toast on a hike. Hike in a good French bread, some eggs, and maple syrup crystals.

Yes, but hardly health food, or french toast for that matter.:-?

Back in the day I could eat my weight in MRE's. They changed them to make them more nutritional and in doing so they ruined the flavor for some of them.

I've never had any problems with the heater packs...they never failed to deliver a piping hot meal--even in my most recent experiences with the hurricane last summer.

MRE=awesome in my book, usually a little heavy but well worth the weight.
