Hence all the Katahdin pics with folks holding "GaMe over" signs.

SOBO = A MEGA Hike
NOBO = A GAME Hike

In more ways than one

When I first started my thru-hike, I (somewhat presumptuously, I guess, since I was still 2,100+ miles from GA) would sign my shelter register entries with "Waterfall, MEGA 2000." One hiker caught up with me and referred to me as "Waterfall Mega" a few times in conversation. I thought it sounded weird and wasn't sure what he was saying (I'm hard of hearing) until he asked me why I spelled the second half of my "trail name" with all caps. :rolleyes:

Ask another question, someone here is sure to help you "feel a big dumb".:eek:

Just kidding of course. One great thing about it, you'll most likely never have to ask that question again. :-?

Have a great hike this July. :sun

"He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever."

(Anybody know where that quote comes from? I don't. All I can find is that it's a "Chinese proverb.")

Oh man so that's where the word gamers comes from

I'm learning all kinds of stuff these last few days...

Why? I didn't make the connection with gamers. Lightbulb!

I mean I know it as NOBO and SOBO basically.

I thought of it as GA to ME, not just the whole word GAME or GAMERs.

Don't! This is a great place to ask questions about the AT hiking and hiking in general.
