I see in Handbook 2009 that turning left & going 5.9
miles will get me to Marion,VA. If I do reverse will there
be an easy I.D. from VA16 to trail or is it hard to find.
Thanks Alot !

Absolutely! You will be in front of Mt. Rogers headquarters. Lovely building with Partnership Shelter not many steps south of it. When will you be there? --Kinnickinic

I agree with Sawnie, the HQ at Partnership Shelter is very easy to find.

Usually you need a landmark, something like the Mt Rogers visitor center, to find the AT, but you have to know of the landmark, there probably won't be any signs (from the road) for the AT. It can be very easy to pass the AT where it crosses the road, some road crossings have a "Hiker Crossing" sign, that'll give you a heads-up.

Thanks SawnieRobertson,
The Info secured my mind in finding the trail from VA16.
It's like John Gault said, because it's happened to me too
many times, it's sometimes hard to find the trail off a road.
Com'in in May Sawnie; I'll let you know, head'in your way.
Maybe that would be a good question for folks for fun.

finding road crossings/trailheads is one of the few things that I will use a GPS for - many of the road crossings coords are now available from various places such as App Pages

From Marion, take the exit where the correctional facility is at. Im not sure whether there are signs there for the Ranger Station or not. Head down that road for approx 6 miles. The trail crosses near the ridgeline. you wont be able to see the ranger station from the road, as the drive goes up a small hill immediately from the road. If you get to a small community in the valley, you have gone about 2 miles too far.
