OK one more...I used my Thru Hiker's Companion (2008), I figured 87.2 miles from Greylock to Salisbury, CT, does that sound correct?

I show a 32.6mi difference between Kent and Salisbury, compared to your 21.6, so call it 26 miles.

If you have time when you get to Salisbury there is a wonderful, (probably the best I ever had), pizza shop there. I can't remember the name of it, but Maria McCabe who runs a hostel in town can. She took me there. Her phone number is (860) 435-0593.

Happy hiking. :sun

Do you think that this is reasonable to think I can walk this distance? I shared my trip plans with a friend and he pretty much told me I was crazy...I didn't think that is was really that crazy....

If you havent been out hiking lately, yeah, thats a lotta miles for you. 5 days,87 miles, that is like over 17 miles a day. When I did CT last year i was with my brother and a friend both of them did a thru in 06 and this year we just did 11-14 a day and sometimes got into camp after dark and very tired. If you were doing MD,SNP,NJ,PA you could easily do 15-17 a day but in CT there is a lotta PUD's and they get to ya after a while. Can you do it? Yeah but you would be getting up early, going to bed late and wont be able to enjoy all the views it offers not to mention being wiped out. If you have been out a couple times already this year it would help but from the couch to 17 a day is a lot.Just my 2 cents.

Absolutely plausable. That's a nice section. I'll be in the area of bear mountain MA at that time so hopefully we'll pass. Good Luck

I hiked this section NOBO last year from July 10 thru 15 including climbing the south side of Greylock while suffering from fever and joint ache from Lyme disease and made it. One day when my fever was at it's worse I made less than 5 miles and spent most of the day in the tent.

So......., If you are truly a "hikergirl" and get an early start at the Lighthouse (summit) on Greylock, and don't tarry, then there's no reason to think you cannot make it. Go for it!

Good luck. Happy hiking and let us know how you do.

Like i said, could you do it....yeah but are you looking to cover miles or enjoy the scenery and outdoors? If you want to get your trail legs on for your upcomming thru then go for it, if you want to just get out and enjoy then tone the miles down a little.

Yeah but there is nothing like it. Im leaving too for a week long section pretty soon. Haven't gone out since Oct. and this bod is crying for it (weight creeping up, back stuff etc). I run too but there is something aobut hiking that makes it much better.

Well, there is one other thing that ain't half bad, but we won't discuss that here.

Have a great hike, and take your time descending Greylock so you don't hurt your knees. :sun

LOL!!

Thanks for the tip...I will keep that in mind...I am half considering just starting at the bottom on the other side...not sure though

My mom is dropping me off and I think the only way to get her to the summit (which I REALLY want her to see) is by the auot road :(....still undecided though

There was something I was going to mention but forgot it earlier. The last mountain before Salisbury is Bear Mtn and Lions head. There is a rock observation tower on top of which someone position some rocks to form a couple of seats. That is a nice place to sit and meditate for a few minutes if you have time. I think the tower was built back in the late 1800's.

Enjoy.

I wasn't very impressed by the views from bear mountain, I still think lions head is a cooler spot to chill and take in the scenery. When I was there we saw two storms colide off in the distance and it caused an upward cloud that looked like something from a movie...I gotta post some pictures when I get a chance.
