I'm getting a new tent and pack for my Colorado Trail thru-hike this summer and I have a couple questions.

For the tent I'm most likely getting the Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo (http://www.sixmoondesigns.com/shop/shopexd.asp?id=36). If I get the ultralight floor, should I use a groundsheet, or is the floor pretty durable and waterproof? The Gossamer Gear Polycro (http://www.gossamergear.com/cgi-bin/gossamergear/polycryo_ground_cloth.html) groundsheet only weighs 1.5 oz. I'm also considering the Wild Oasis (http://www.sixmoondesigns.com/shop/shopexd.asp?id=48), but I'm not sure how I feel about a floorless shelter.

For the pack I'm trying to decide between the ULA Conduit (http://www.ula-equipment.com/conduit.htm) and the Circuit (http://www.ula-equipment.com/circuit.htm). Assuming I get the Lunar Solo my base pack weight will be about 11-12 pounds. Is that "ultralight" enough for the Conduit, or would I be better off getting the Circuit?

Your great ultralight sheet would be a piece of Tyvek cut to size. You can buy online or find it at construction sites. For convienience sake, I bought some off of fellow whiteblazer Pickleodeon: http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/member.php?u=18302

While you are browsing the SMD web site looking at shelters, you might check the Starlite pack. I've used mine for 5 years now, and it's the best lightweight pack I've tried. (Yes, I've tried the ULA packs, along with everything else, but they don't fit me nearly as well.)

In my very personal opinion, SMD makes good shelters and a great pack. You might also check the tarptent.com site for more shelter options.

The Starlite looks like a great pack. I will consider it. Thank you.

Anyone else have any opinions?

Oh, and I would bring the polycro groundsheet regardless. It's useful for things beyond putting under one's tent.

Polycro sheet is great for the weight. I like my Wild Oasis. Have you tarped before? I also have a Gossamer Gear The One - like it a lot too, and full protection.

Love my ULA P2, hope to get a Conduit soon. If I were you, I'd gather all my other gear, then order a Conduit, see how everything fits. Let Brian know what you are doing, and that you may want to exchange it for a Circuit. Just make sure to allow enough time for the exchange if necessary.

CO Trail is on my short list, I'm jealous. Have a blast!

No, I have never tarped before. I'm not totally against the idea, I'm just not sure how comfortable I'd be without full bug and weather protection. I'm really tempted to go for the Wild Oasis though. Seems nice and roomy and super light at just 13 oz.

Have you considered adding a bivy sack with noseeum mesh to your kit?
